› Route Clearance :

The target of the Route Clearance operation is to clear the route of a new cable from any out of service cable identified which could stop the plough operation or damage the plough burial equipment.

In order to perform the Route Clearance Operation, different types of grapnels (5) are used to recover the cable on board.

A Linear Cable Engine is used to pull the cable on board the vessel before being cut and stored.

Cable ends remaining are re-laid flat on the seabed in accordance to ICPC-1 recommendation.

SIMEC has developed twin-track cable engines for its own laying or lifting operations on former cables. Several hundred kilometres of cables have been lifted in the North Sea, English Channel and Atlantic Ocean, cut into sections and scrapped.
